About Me
A Childhood Captured by Kodak
I was born in the early sixties — back when childhood memories were captured on 35mm slides and home movies were projected onto a screen in the living room (if you could get the projector to work).
Some of my fondest memories are of my dad’s Sunday night slideshows and home movies, even if the screen never quite unfurled properly and we had to pray that the projector bulb didn’t burn out. After I grew up, and like so many families, our memories were eventually packed away in boxes — almost forgotten except when I had to lug them with me in a move. Years later, I was somehow appointed the “family historian” and everyone began giving me their forgotten photos, tapes, and reels (probably just to get them out of their own basements). I didn’t know it then, but that was the beginning of Souvenirs Presérvés.
Rediscovering a Passion
The year after my father passed away in 2015, my uncle (my dad’s twin brother) became quite ill. On a whim, I went through all our old slides and had about 150 scanned and did a slideshow for him which he absolutely adored. To this day I regret not doing it before my father passed.
What started with a single slideshow for my aging uncle turned into a passion: helping families reconnect with their past and preserve their stories for future generations.
Why I Do This
I love doing this because these aren’t just photos or videos — they’re the history of people’s lives. And the media that they are stored on is quickly degrading and the equipment necessary to enjoy them is fast becoming obsolete. I’ve seen the joy that comes from rediscovering a forgotten memory and every family deserves to experience that joy. Let’s bring your past back into the present and preserve it for the future.
